THE AMAZINGLY CALMING EFFECT OF UNCOMFORTABLE HIGH HEELS.
By Jessikah Kollatou
Do you want to LOOK good or FEEL good?
Yes, I know, almost 99.9 and a half percent of the female population on the planet want BOTH!
But what if you can’t have both? If you could only choose one or the other, which one would it be?
Admit it! At some point in your life, you have worn those cute, sexy and incredibly uncomfortable shoes on a hot date, or at the office, or out with your girlfriends! Busted!!!
lol
And even though you could hardly breathe from the suffocation your poor little feet had to endure, you kept smiling through your teeth, maybe had an extra shot of something alcoholic to get through it with your dignity intact.
But that’s besides the point here.
How can it be possible to feel a calming effect when wearing uncomfortable high heels?
Can high heels reduce stress?
Think about it for a minute. When your shoes are uncomfortable, you simply CAN NOT Â run around like a chicken with its head cut off to do all your grocery shopping, print those photocopies for the office, go to the bank, pick up the clothes from the dry cleaners and drop the kids off to dance , martial arts or music class, all in one hour!! Something you normally do wearing those comfy flip flops, sport shoes, or convenient low heels.
I don’t care about being right , but you KNOW I am !
lol
So inevitably, if you don’t have an alternative (or refuse to choose one), you are forced to slow down your crazy hectic pace.
You walk slower, while trying to breathe and smile and look normal, and before you know it, your rapid breathing has slowed down too. And since the breath controls the mind, so has your mind slowed down the processing of a gazillion thoughts at the speed of a nanosecond.
Suddenly you notice that its not raining today and the sun is out, you remember to say hi to your next door neighbor-the one you usually rush by focused on getting your to do list done.
You hear some bird chirping on a nearby tree, oh yes, the tree looks so green and beautiful !
You are walking a little more gracefully hoping no one will notice how uncomfortable you feel, and standing a little taller to take off the pressure from being distributed only on your lower body, and you look a little slimmer too because your spine is now elongated.
Eventually you get home and take the shoes off with a sigh of relief, plunge on the couch for a moment (which you normally never have-the moment, not the couch ) , and suddenly realize you are not as stressed as when you normally run around for your errands.
Oh, and you have miraculously done all your errands, in that one sloooow hour! Â
